Last week, the Travel, Tourism and Aviation students at Slough & Langley College experienced an exciting Skills-based Week, packed with industry focused workshops, hands-on training, and inspirational talks from leading professionals.
The week kicked off with Heathrow Customer Service Manager, Miguel Cabrera Vivas, delivering a CV writing workshop helping students refine their applications for the competitive Travel and Tourism industry. Later Harry Hodson, from the Talent and Culture Recruitment team at Fairmont Hotel, gave an engaging presentation on applying for roles in hospitality, offering valuable tips and career advice.
On Tuesday, students participated in a packed schedule that included fifteen students attending an exclusive workshop at the London Heathrow Employment and Skills Academy. Meanwhile other students had CPR and Aviation Medicine training and a LinkedIn profile building session from the College’s Travel and Tourism lecturers. In the afternoon, Becky from British Airways led a mock group Cabin Crew interview session, offering authentic real-world experience of what students could expect during the cabin crew recruitment process.
Wednesday’s activities brought inspiring guest speakers and hands-on learning opportunities. Emma Miles, Operations Manager at Pinewood Studios, joined Vicky Leviten, Senior Business Travel Consultant, and Shannon Boyce, Administration Assistant, to lead some outstanding BCD travel workshops. Students then heard from Matt Dipper, Talent Acquisition Manager at EasyJet, who delivered an insightful presentation on cabin crew careers, before our Careers and Employability Adviser Jayne Langley led a great talk on future career options for students.
To wrap up the week, students braved the wet weather to enjoy an exciting guided tour of Windsor Castle, where they learned about various career opportunities available to them in the historic site. We also welcomed Heidi Cole from Confidence in the Air, who delivered an inspiring talk on building self-esteem, handling rejections and dealing with high profile customers, rounding off the week on a motivational note.
Heidi was full of praise for the programme: “When delivering workshops to the students, I was struck by the genuine care, passion and dedication of the whole team to make a real difference.
The supportive environment they have created is by far the best I’ve experienced; my only real reference point is that I had an incredible school teacher that made a real difference, whom will always be remembered. Here, they have a whole team.”
Monish Bhandari, Programme Manager for Travel, Tourism and Aviation at Slough & Langley College, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported our amazing Skills Week. We are leading the way for a student centred, motivational course which has so many positive destinations after!
We are delighted that, as a result of this week’s activities, one of our students has gained employment with British Airways, which is yet another sign of the strength of our programmes. We can’t wait to get started on planning the next one.”
Thank you to all the speakers who supported our Slough & Langley College Travel, Tourism and Aviation Skills-based Week, their contributions made it an unforgettable and enjoyable experience for our students.
