Changes to Building Regulations, particularly Approved Documents Part L (Energy Efficiency) and Part F (Ventilation), together with the introduction of the Future Homes Standard, are driving the construction of more energy-efficient, airtight homes than ever before.
As airtightness levels increase, effective ventilation is no longer optional; it is essential for achieving compliance, maintaining indoor air quality, and ensuring building performance. Correctly designed, installed, and commissioned ventilation systems help create healthy living environments, control moisture, and support energy efficiency goals.
However, poor installation and commissioning practices remain a common issue across the industry. When ventilation systems fail to perform as intended, the consequences can include condensation, mould growth, poor indoor air quality, and dissatisfied occupants.
Ensuring ventilation systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned correctly is therefore critical to the success of every modern housing project.
By the end of this course, you will:
o Gain an understanding of the main ventilation system types and their application requirements.
o Understand the key guidance documents, standards, and regulatory requirements.
o Develop an understanding of the commissioning process and industry best practices.
Learners will gain an understanding of the following areas:
