Foundation Interview Process

All levels

Foundation Studies is for young learners who may require extra support to access education and/or have a learning difficulty. You need to be working at the following levels: Entry Level 2 to Level 1.

We provide a supported learning environment, independent living skills, English and Maths and employability skills. All courses run for one year.

You can wear what feel you comfortable in, but you should be casually smart. The interview will be relaxed and informal so that you feel comfortable and are able to make informed decisions and choices, with the support of your parent/carer.

The course tutor will go through the course details and what is expected of you. We will inform you about potential trips, work experience and vocational options.

If the Assessment of Needs and/or Medical Risk Assessment forms have not been completed before the interview, they will be completed at the interview with you and your parent/carer.

At the end of the interview, the tutor will advise what the next steps are and, if they feel that this is appropriate, they might arrange a date for you to come in for a taster day. This will help us to see if the environment is right for you and that we can meet your needs.

An Assessment of Needs and Medical Risk Assessment will need to be completed and brought along to the interview. These forms will be sent to you and your parent/carer via the Central Admissions Team. Parents/Carers are asked to attend interviews with you.

Please bring any certificates, predicted grades or evidence of the level you are working at. Be ready to chat to us about what you enjoy and what you find challenging.

During the interview we will have a friendly discussion to get to know all about you. We will then support you to complete a short Literacy and Numeracy assessment so that we know your working level in these subjects.

We will talk through your Assessment of Needs and any medical needs.
