Course Overview

This qualification has been designed as a one-year, full-time course that supports progression to an apprenticeship in engineering or to a second year of study at Level 3. Resulting in an Extended DIploma in Engineering, which will earn UCAs points.

The qualification is equivalent in size to 1.5 A levels and aims to introduce study of the engineering sector.

Engineering covers a broad variety of roles and has a focus on a broad range of engineering specialist areas. This course will give the learner opportunity during practice in developing employability skills such as cognitive and problem-solving, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for the course are a minimum of three GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.

Course information

The course covers four mandatory units which are:

– Engineering principles and mathematics
– Health and safety, teamwork and interpreting and creating computer-aided engineering drawings
– Design and manufacture of products
– Commercial principles and understanding and application of quality systems.

Plus further 2 Optional units Totalling 6 units

1 Year

Online sessions, classroom sessions, practical sessions.

2 Units will be assessed by an external exam and marked and graded by Persons. A further 4 units will be assignment based and internally assessed. All units will be graded a pass, merit or distinction by your tutors
